July 21 – Loving
the homeless. Our Children learned about the Outdoor Church which
ministers to the homeless in Cambridge.
After the Children’s Message they went up to Fellowship Hall to
participate in a Sandwich Factory and made 61 roast beef, egg salad and tuna
fish sandwiches which Rev. Hughes delivered that afternoon. The third picture below shows people
receiving the sandwiches following a Communion Service on the Cambridge Common. We also want to thank Danielle and
Josie for making homemade bracelets which they sold during coffee hour. The money the raised will be donated to
the North Reading Food Pantry.
July 14 – Loving
the least among us includes all of God’s creatures which is why Fellowship Hall
was full of snakes, baby alligators and tarantulas and excited children as we
were visited by the good people from Curious Creatures.
July
7 – I was a stranger and you
welcomed me.
The children made special
bookmarkers that will be included in welcome bags that will be given to
visitors who worship with us on Sunday mornings. The children also went to the garden and picked the
first tomatoes that will be donated to the North Reading Food Pantry. And as they’ve done each Sunday during
the summer they enjoyed making their own sno-cones.
June 30: The children learned that
poverty is a reality for many Native Americans living on reservations. They also learned though that
Union sponsors a young Lakota girl from South Dakota named Georgianna. After the children’s message the
children went up to Fellowship Hall where Heidi McGlauflin showed them the art
of pottery making.
June
23 – Our children learned about
loving those who are sick and sad.
Bonnie Wallace and Caroline Smith two of the knitters from our Prayer
Shawl Ministry showed the children some of the 102 prayer shawls that they and
other women in the church have knitted for people who need a little cheering
up.
The children also made special “Trust
in the Lord” magnets that Rev. Hughes brought to the residents of the Meadow
View Nursing Home.
June 16 – Christian Community Service
The children discovered the many
different ways CCS helps people right here in North Reading. They learned about Christmas Tag-A-Tag
ministry…
CCS helps people who are sick.
CCS helps people
who are hungry. Planting tomato
plants to provide fresh vegetables for the food pantry.
And enjoying make
your own sno-cones! We’ll be doing that through out the summer. Who says
Summer Sunday School isn’t
cool?
