This year’s theme for
Children’s Sunday was “Head For The Hills” and we thank Don Doyle for lending us his artistic gifts and
making the wonderful scenery for the service.
The day was made even more
special by the toe tapping music provided by the Spirit Jazz ensemble.
The ensemble included a bass
guitarist and helped everyone make a joyful noise unto the Lord.
A jazz ensemble of course
wouldn’t be complete without a talented saxophonist.
Who also happened to play
the flute.
UCC is blessed with a congregation
filled with bonds of love uniting the young and young at heart.
The children did the skits
and recited their verses and sang their songs that helped us spend some time with Jesus on the Sermon on the Mount, the Mount
of the Transfiguration and the Mount of Calvary.
The children loved waving
their glow sticks while remembering Jesus on the Mount of the Transfiguration by singing “Shine, Jesus Shine.”
Even the adults got into
the spirit.
A tradition at UCC is that
each of the children receives a geranium on Children’s Sunday. Elena was
very happy with her geranium. The geraniums are a continuing gift to the church
in memory of Forrest and Helen Thurston.
Following the service the
adults enjoyed the brunch in Fellowship Hall.
While the ice cream sundae
table – another UCC Children’s Sunday tradition – proved to be very popular with the children…quite
a few adults were also spotted at that table.
