Fellowship Hall was decorated
by the Youth Ministry and Young Disciples for a festive time of food and fun.
Unusual clothes and costumes
were the order of the day. Ashton was one of our winners for her colorful attire.
Even some of the adults got
into the spirit.
Gabbie helped in the kitchen making pancakes for the 150 or so hungry members
of our church family who stayed after church for the Mardi Gras Brunch.
Thea enjoyed helping the younger children make their cotton candy.
Kaitlyn took her turn creating a spin art masterpiece
Our pancake races were very
competitive too. Pancake races and Mardi Gras stem from a legend that began in
England many years ago. According
to the legend a woman was making pancakes when the church bell began to ring signaling the service to begin Lent. So, the woman ran to the church flipping her pancake as she went.
Meaghan was all smiles as she held her giant Hershey’s Kiss that she
got for winning her pancake race.
Rev. Hughes and our student
minister Mike Gelsomini continued a tradition of student versus supervisor pancake race.
Rumor has it that the student won this year.
It turned out to be a best
two out of three contest.
All of the festivities culminated with the piņata.
Some of the smallest of the
children proved to be heavy hitters with the piņata.
When the piņata came down
the children scrambled for the candy.
